چکیده

The aim of this paper was to present the second case B chromosomes in Auchenipteridae (Trachelyopterus sp.), and test hypothesis that species Parauchenipterus galeatus might have a common origin, since these two phylogenetic proximity. Both 58 A complement, heterochromatin preferentially located at terminal region most chromosomes, simple Ag-NORs short arm subtelocentric pair, which confirmed by hybridization with 18S rDNA, submetacentric pairs carrying 5S rDNA sites, presence chromosomes. are small, metacentric, almost totally heterochromatic, variation number intra interindividual. In addition, for first time fish, telomeric sequence [TTAGGG]n dispersed along (both species). [GATA]n microsatellite were scattered all complement absent both species. These aspects confirm proximity between genus Trachelyopterus, they suggest previous diversification genera.

First report of B chromosomes in three neotropical thorny catfishes (Siluriformes, Doradidae)

The family Doradidae (Siluriformes) is an important group of fishes endemic to freshwater ecosystems in South America. Some cytogenetic studies have been conducted focused on the group; however, there are no reports on the occurrence of B chromosomes for the family. In this paper the chromosomal characteristics of Platydoras armatulus (Valenciennes, 1840), Pterodoras granulosus (Valenciennes, 1...

Impoundment effects in the population of Auchenipterus osteomystax (Siluriformes: Auchenipteridae): a Neotropical reservoir case.

New impoundments provide opportunities to check whether species that present enough feeding flexibility in natural conditions may take advantage of this situation and, without reproductive restriction, can occupy the most conspicuous habitat in a large reservoir (open areas) and present higher success in the colonization of the new environment. We examined variations in the abundance and feedin...

Possible origins of B chromosomes in Rineloricaria pentamaculata (Loricariidae, Siluriformes) from the Paraná River basin.

We made a cytogenetic study of Rineloricaria pentamaculata from the Tauá Stream, in the Pirapó River sub-basin in Paraná State, Brazil, focused on the occurrence and origins of the B chromosomes. The diploid number varied from 2n = 56 to 2n = 59, due to the presence of 0 to 3 B microchromosomes of the acrocentric type, which were observed in 92.3% of the specimens (N = 12). These chromosomes we...

Single Origin of Sex Chromosomes and Multiple Origins of B Chromosomes in Fish Genus Characidium

Chromosome painting with DNA probes obtained from supernumerary (B) and sex chromosomes in three species of fish genus Characidium (C. gomesi, C. pterostictum and C. oiticicai) showed a close resemblance in repetitive DNA content between B and sex chromosomes in C. gomesi and C. pterostictum. This suggests an intraspecific origin for B chromosomes in these two species, probably deriving from se...

Physical mapping of human chromosomes by repetitive sequence fingerprinting.

We have developed an approach for identifying overlapping cosmid clones by exploiting the high density of repetitive sequences in complex genomes. Individual clones are fingerprinted, using a combination of restriction enzyme digestions followed by hybridization with selected classes of repetitive sequences. This "repeat fingerprinting" technique allows small regions of clone overlap (10-20%) t...
